[Belts made by NIPPON TOKKEN KOGYO CO., LTD.]

Q1 What are the features of belts made by NIPPON TOKKEN KOGYO CO., LTD.?

Q1 We use raw materials carefully selected from around the world and carefully perform each and every process right here in Japan. We encourage you to give them a try to get a true feel for their excellent quality, which is not visible from their external appearance.

[Corrugator Belts]

Q1 What are the features of TOKKEN corrugator belts?

Q1 To come right down to it, they have excellent balance. Conflicting capabilities are simultaneously demanded of corrugator belts, such as stiffness and softness, and air permeability and heat retention. In order to achieve these we have arranged them in a well-balanced mix of natural fibers and synthetic fibers, which each have differing properties.

Q2 Isn’t cotton weak?

Q1 No, not so. Are jeans weak? There are many people under the mistaken impression that natural fibers like cotton are weak and that synthetic fibers are strong. Both natural fibers and synthetic fibers have their own respective advantages and disadvantages. TOKKEN corrugator belts are designed in such a way that their disadvantages counteract one another and their respective advantages are harnessed.

Q3 How much tension is best for a TOKKEN corrugator belt?

Q1 The minimum tension at which there is no slippage between the belt and the drive drum is best. The common method is to apply tension through the use of an air cylinder on the upper belt, with the tension being adjusted via the cylinder pressure. Since factors like the equipment configuration and cylinder diameter on each machine differ, it is impossible to provide a general rule, but broadly speaking we encourage you to find a cylinder pressure suited to each of these with the aim being about 3 – 4 kg/cm2 (≒0.3 – 0.4MP).

Q4 Will the belt slip if the cylinder pressure is 3 – 4 kg/cm2 (≒0.3 – 0.4MP)?

Q1 We ask that you change the lagging material (usually rubber) on the drive drum. With ordinary rubber the lagging material must be changed each time that the upper belt is, or once or more for every three times that the upper belt is changed with high quality rubber, depending on the quality of the rubber. Neglecting to do so will make it difficult to operate at the proper tension, and may lead to problems such as considerable stretching of the belt length from the high tension, a contraction in the belt width, shortening of the belt life span, and energy loss.

Q5 How long is the life span for the belts?

Q1Even when using the same machine and the same belt their life spans will vary depending on the circumstances at each factory. Most of our customers change belts at about 35 – 50 million meters, with some of our customers using them for more than 100 million meters. It is difficult to accurately judge the life span of the belts from their outward appearance, but this can suddenly appear as a drop in quality of the production sheets and the occurrence of defective sheets. Therefore we recommend quickly making arrangements for spare belts.

Q5 Are corrugator belts good if they have a large air permeability rate?

Q1 No, that’s not the case. To be sure, the air permeability rate is an important factor that governs the belt’s performance. So then what sorts of belts have the largest air permeability rate? This would be a beltless configuration. Such a configuration would maximize the air permeability rate, and so this air permeability rate will provisionally be taken to be 100. Though this is impossible in reality, with a beltless configuration only the sheet would move. In such cases what would happen to the belt’s heat retention? Since there is no belt the belt’s heat retention is naturally 0. In other words, the sheets would be susceptible to being directly affected by the external environment. The sheets would suffer from sudden temperature changes due to the production speed, along with water vapor turning into water and tending to remain within the sheets. In addition, this would cause all sorts of problems, such as considerable temperature differences between the front side facing the hot plate and the back side and the non-uniform generation of moisture within the sheets.

Q5 Is heat retention important?

Q1 Heat retention is similar to air permeability in that it is also an extremely important factor. The external environment surrounding the machinery is constantly changing within the factory. For example, there is summer and winter; rainy seasons and dry seasons; clear and cloudy days; days with strong winds and those with gentle winds; and morning, noon, and night. Belt’s heat retention factor helps to standardize and equalize the production conditions by shutting out such effects from the external environment. By doing so, consistent production quality can be preserved throughout the year. In short, there is no one single factor that denotes whether a belt is good or bad. To reiterate, it is important to have a balance between various different factors, such as air permeability, heat retention, weight, belt’s stiffness and softness, water absorbency, durability, and the coefficient of friction.

[Cotton Belts]

Q1 What are the features of TOKKEN cotton belts?

Q1 The TOKKEN cotton belt AC series is 100% cotton. These can be used extensively throughout the food industry as well as in general industries.

>>FAQ Top

Q2 Aren’t cotton belts a poor choice since they get moldy?

Q1 To be sure, cotton belts do get moldy. But so long as the location has good ventilation, they can be stored for extended periods of time. And a word for those of you in the food industry: Having mold grow means that living things can live on them. To put it another way, this is proof that they are safe.

>>FAQ Top

Q3 Are there any precautions regarding their use?

Q1 These differ from ordinary belts in that we encourage you to pay attention to their length. Cotton belts shrink along their lengthwise direction at the outset. If you order the shortest length, then even when they are delivered after having been cut to the ordered dimensions by TOKKEN, they may shrink prior to use, which would render them uninstallable on the machinery. Furthermore, when using them as take-up belts for cardboard production machinery, some equipment requires the belts to be slack to operate. An adequate length that is capable of absorbing this initial shrinkage is necessary.

[Air-Slide Canvas]

Q1 What are the features of TOKKEN air-slide canvas?

Q1 When all is said and done, these include the exactness of its air permeability rate and its stability. For this reason the PF series is favored by numerous customers in the industry. In addition, we also manufacture canvas types that have a variety of air permeability rates to meet customers’ demand through the techniques that we have cultivated over many years.

>>FAQ Top

Q2 What is a good air permeability rate?

Q1 The air permeability rate needed for various different powders and equipment and conditions varies. Canvas with large and canvas with small air permeability rates also have their own respective advantages and disadvantages. Consult with the plants managers and manufacturers regarding the air permeability rate.

[Heatax Belts]

Q1 What are the features of TOKKEN Heatax belts?

Q1 We select and design materials that suit the customers’ needs, and manufacture belts that are only for our customers and which are suited to them. What is more, we weave belts to the width desired by our customers. For this reason we can supply products with woven selvage.
